Project Shine
Each year we dust off the ladders, crack open the paint cans,
and set out to bless those in need.
What is Project Shine?
Project Shine is a 501(c) nonprofit missions organization serving the Kenmore neighborhood of Akron, Ohio. Since our inception in 2002, our vision has been to impact our neighborhood with an awareness of it's churches and the Gospel as well as to bring about spiritual growth for all who participate.
A Short History Lesson
The vision for Project Shine began in the summer of 2001. The youth ministries of Hope United Methodist Church and Goss Mermorial Church, both of Kenmore, ended up attending the same work camp in East Bank, WV. Neither group knew of the others participation. The coincidence was discovered when the guys for both groups ended up
staying next to each other in the school where the work camp operated from. As the week developed, relationships were forged and a vision of bringing a similar ministry to Kenmore was birthed.
After many months of prayer, planning, support from the City of Akron (and winging-it!), the summer of 2002 saw the birth of Project Shine. The three day, four night event saw over a dozen lives impacted by the outreach ministry. Over 45 volunteers came together and impacted Kenmore in a big way. The summers of 2003 and 2004 have produced
awesome ministry. Making adjustments along the way, adding volunteers, and moving ahead with an unrelenting focus on Christ, God has blessed our efforts and deepened our passion.
